About the CLT Test

NCNLA, in conjunction with PLANET, offers the Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) exam.  This is an international, hands-on, certification testing program that promotes professionalism in the landscape industry and creates opportunities for career advancement.

Each candidate selects a specialty area, “modules”, (Softscape Installation, Hardscape Installation, Turf Maintenance, Ornamental Maintenance and/or Irrigation-NEW 2009) to achieve their CLT designation – candidate may choose up to two modules.
Double Bracket: Certification is not A substitute for a landscape contractor's license. Passing the Certification Test does not count toward a state license. The goals, subject matter, and procedures of the Certification Test are different from licensing exams. Certification is not a substitute for any of the state issued pesticide licenses. The goals, subject matter, and procedures of the Certification Test are different from the licensing exams conducted by the North Carolina Department of Food and Agriculture.
The CLT test is a combination of written and hands-on testing.  All hands-on elements approximate “real life” scenarios which are supervised by one or more judges – see module requirements under “ABOUT THE TEST.  At the end of each timed session, the applicants rotate to another work station.  Applicants must pass ALL elements to become a Certified Landscape Technician (CLT).
