CERTIFICATIONS

The North Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association, Inc. would like to offer you the opportunity to become a Nationally Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) or a State Certified Plant Professional (CPP).

The CLT program helps to promote professionalism in the landscape industry and create opportunities for career advancement. We will be offering the CLT test in Kinston, NC on June 7-8. This will be our only test in 2007. The certification is a national hands-on testing program administered by NCNLA that seeks to recognize proficiency in the landscape workforce, upgrade the status of the landscape professional, and provide the public with a means of identifying qualified landscape professionals. To become a Certified Landscape Technician, an applicant must pass the Common Elements plus a Core Test. Successful completion of the Installation test demonstrates that an individual has the skills to take a landscape blueprint and implement the design in the field. Passing the Maintenance test shows that a person has the skills to maintain a landscape project in a professional manner.

The CPP program demonstrates professionalism in the Nursery industry and creates opportunities for career advancement through a two part test. The written portion identifies knowledge and skills needed while working in a nursery or landscape operation. The Plant ID portion requires identification of 125 “live” plants, which demonstrates basic knowledge of plant material. In 2008 NCNLA will be offering five tests throughout the state (schedule & locations enclosed).

It is our goal to see as many people complete the certification process as possible. There is currently space available in both the CLT test and the CPP exam for you or your employees to register.
